I have just arrived home from the midnight showing of the new Sherlock Holmes film, starring once again the brilliant acting team up of Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law. The film itself was magnificent, a triumph of cinema, a healthy blend of action, suspense and as always with Mr. Sherlock Holmes, mystery.
I do not intend to spoil the plot, however the ending of the film plays out in its own way like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's most famous Holmes story "The Final Problem". Again I am not giving away the plot, but consider that a giant spoiler for all those who know and love Holmes and his adventures as much as I do.
The cast of the film brings back RDJ and Jude Law, as well as Rachel McAdams briefly as Irene Adler, Geraldine James as Mrs. Hudson, Eddie Marsan as Inspector Lestrade and Kelly Reilly as Mary Morstan. Newcomers are Jared Harris as Professor Moriarty, Noomi Rapace as Sim, Paul Anderson as Colonel Sebastian Moran and Stephen Fry as Mycroft Holmes.
If I were a professional reviewer, I would happily give this film four out of four stars, for brilliant acting, dialogue, intense action, beautiful scenery, and for once again doing justice to the might and majesty that is Sherlock Holmes. After all, it's elementary, isn't it dear readers?
